Most people only think about getting the words onto the paper, or the screen. They rarely think about getting themselves into a zone to make it happen. But guess what? You'll find it much easier to create when you find the right zone for you. Here's what I'm talking about...
I am fascinated by the various settings that writers put themselves into in order to create. The story goes that author Stephen King must have loud music playing, usually rock 'n roll oldies. Other writers need complete silence.
Some authors will tell you that they have a favorite sweater, or t-shirt, that they must be wearing in order to be fully comfortable. It's almost like a superstition.
I've heard of writers who insist on being outdoors, while others insist that they need to be in a small room.
The point is, while it might sound silly, your own zone is whatever makes you feel comfortable enough to write. It's not only physical comfort, either. Many times it's a place, or an atmosphere, or a time of day that works for you. Find out what makes you the most productive, and stick with it. You might find that you almost train your mind to pump out better ideas and better writing as soon as it recognizes your comfort zone.
