It's an annual tradition at The Big Brain Club...the October assignment always taps the scary side of your creativity. Read all about it...
If you ask anyone who specializes in scary movies, they'll tell you that what made Alfred Hitchcock such an amazing director was the fact that he made you supply the terror. That means that he set the scene, inserted a fair amount of suspense and mystery, and let your own natural imagination fuel your fear.
We're going to do the same thing with this month's assignment. Rather than write a scary short story with a monster, or aliens, or blood and guts, it's time for you to think about what you can accomplish by suggestion. Don't SHOW your readers the gore...make them imagine it. Don't SHOW your readers the evil monster standing in the doorway...make them feel it.
I'll admit that this is one of the more challenging assignments in The Big Brain Club...but you don't like to always play it safe, do you? Take some time to craft a three-page short story that draws the reader in, and forces them to imagine the evil just around the corner.
And, of course, have fun with it! This project will help to boost your writing in all areas, not just horror.
